A sharp turn from engineering to magic
Although it has been my hobby since I was a child, my professional journey into the world of magic could not have been foreseen.
After completing a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, I taught English in Japan for a year. It was an incredible experience, and I even had the opportunity to stay a further year to study Japanese in Tokyo.
Upon returning to the UK, I took up the role of an investment analyst and started training to become an actuary. It was a stable career path, but it became clear that it wasn't what I wanted. I realised that my true passion lay in the world of magic, and I wanted to dedicate my time to what was meaningful to me. In February 2012 I made the decision to register as self-employed and embark on a journey to become a professional magician.
Sleight-heavy magic and tailored performances
I find great satisfaction in creating intimate and engaging experiences for my audiences through sleight-of-hand magic. The way magic challenges our perceptions of reality is eye-opening, and I am always on the lookout for hidden gems in the field. I take pride in my ability to tailor my performances to a wide range of audiences, whether it is a corporate event, a family gathering, or a public show. I strive to make my performances enjoyable for all.
Performances and achievements
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to perform at various festivals, including the Brighton Fringe, Great Yorkshire Fringe, Buxton Fringe, and Edinburgh Fringe. One of my most memorable experiences was participating in the Hollywood Fringe Festival. It was a great opportunity to showcase my magic to an international audience, and I was thrilled with the positive response I received.
A magical twist: my Bond moment
In an exciting turn of events, I had the chance to serve as a hand double for one of the characters in the James Bond film "No Time to Die". It was a surreal experience, and I feel amazed to have had the opportunity to utilise my knowledge of sleight-of-hand on the big screen.
Unforgettable experiences for diverse audiences
I cater to a wide range of audiences, ensuring that each performance can be tailored to the specific needs and expectations of the event. Whether it's a private event such as a birthday party or an intimate anniversary dinner, I aim to create memorable experiences. For corporate events like product launches, trade shows, or Christmas parties, I offer performances that engage and captivate attendees, leaving a lasting impression on all guests.
My shows are also suited to exclusive events, including cruise ships, high net worth VIP gatherings, and diplomatic events, where the emphasis is on high-quality sleight of hand and mentalism. What sets my performances apart is the focus on being polite and non-intrusive and ensuring that the magic enhances the event without overshadowing it. I pride myself on delivering reliable shows and mix and mingle magic, drawing from a solid knowledge of the history of close-up magic.
Magic as an art form
For me, magic is first and foremost a hobby - a hobby of the study of the art of magic. Secondarily it is my profession. My aim is to convey this art in all my professional engagements.
